(Working Dads, your turn will come in 2025)
I’ve been a working mom since the day my 1st daughter was born. Saving the six weeks parenting time-off I was given for each of my kids (in the US), I haven’t stopped being a working mom for 18 years.
Since 2016 I’ve added “working from home” and “homeschool mom” to my professional bio.
As a working from home mom I know firsthand the many challenges and struggles that come with balancing work and home life, juggling kids' activities, work obligations and the never ending list of home duties which oftentimes leaves us feeling depleted and lacking, and ultimately not able to give (or receive) our full selves in any of our roles.
When I met my friend and fellow conscious parenting coach, Patricia Diaz-Kismarton (founder of “Branch Out”,) we bonded over our sense of guilt and more importantly, our frustration with the lack of support working moms get. We know that working moms carry a heavy load and often find themselves (whether consciously or unconsciously) striving for perfection in all areas, which only adds to the pressure.
But that energy led to a realization, if I’m feeling this way, sunrise to sundown, many working moms out there are feeling it too. That’s why I'm so happy to share the launch of The Parenting Camp™. A first-of-its-kind 3-month virtual program tailored specifically for working moms.
The Parenting Camp™ for Working Moms was highly inspired by a reflection and important insight Patricia and I shared. As working moms we were going through completing tasks, meeting demands, dealing with stressful situations at work and at home; our children are growing up faster than we can blink. We both agreed that we wished we could go back in time. Go back to do what? To be fully present because for our children every little moment counts. The greeting at the door, the morning routine, the dinner, the school pick up, the painful break up, the disappointment with their closest friends, the social media anxiety, the (fill in the blank). We believe that what working moms need the most is a fun and supportive space where they can freely share, vent, explore, practice, and take actions towards making every moment count for their kids and for themselves.
Patricia and I are both campers, and love what camping creates for people: the opportunity to pause and live with intention and intensity, the space to grow and connect, and the ability to be resourceful with having little or no access to daily luxuries (like a toilet). We both agree there is nothing more life-changing than sitting around a fogata (bonfire) with people you love. There is usually laughter, tears of joy, and as many stories as the stars that shape the circumference of the planet. No distractions, just the pure joy of being present. And all of this is what our camp will provide for working moms. At first, we will recreate this experience virtually, and next year in person in Portugal!
In addition to the virtual program, Patricia and I have also created a “Packing List” that contains 30 daily intentions and prompts meant to help working moms feel more “full” in their parenting.
In fact, if you comment the words “Packing List” below, I'll send you this complimentary list today. Whether you plan to attend the camp or not, it can help you greatly as a working mom.
To give you a sense of what the Packing List can do for you, here's one prompt example:
“Write down a list of 3 things you wish you could improve as a working mom?”
I took on this prompt, wrote my own answers, and asked my kids as well. Their answers varied, but in essence they all agreed that even though I am working from home, sometimes it feels like work means or matters more than they do. That I could be more present with them. Even if not all the time, but during the moments that count the most for them.
Ouch! Talk about Mom Guilt!
I'm sure you'd agree that the struggle is real. (Hint: we dedicate an entire session of the parenting camp to this guilt we can feel as working moms!)
From now on, we won't have to go at it alone. Together, we can make the internal changes and transformation within ourselves that will lead to more heart-centered, inspired, and connected parenting.
The first session begins on September 17, 2024. You can find all the details here.
Starting August 3rd Patricia and I will be sharing daily reels and posts on Instagram with inspiration worth paying attention to. Follow The Parenting Camp™ to have us in your feed, and get the right message when you need it most :)
